For the next three days area firefighters will be training at the future Eddy Street Commons.
The training mostly involves trenches.
The crews will go through the steps of making a rescue, from scouting out the area to assembling equipment on-site.
Firefighters from Niles, Warsaw, South Bend, Notre Dame and Clay and Harris townships are participating.
They say the training helps them get a feel for how other departments operate.
"The idea of getting all of our departments together is so we learn each other's resources, learn each other's equipment, so that when the rescue happens, we're fluid," said Clay firefighter Keith Kwieran.
Over 100 firefighters, from technicians to paramedics, are taking part in the training
