There are more woes for Benton Harbor.
In light of their possible layoffs, the Firefighters Union has filed a lawsuit against the city's emergency financial manager. That's according to our reporting partners at the Herald Palladium.
The union's attorney filed unfair labor practice charges against Joseph Harris and the city this week.
In a letter, the attorney says the city violated the Public Employment Relations Act by stating that firefighters will be laid off, and work will be contracted out to St. Joseph and Benton Township starting in January.
Harris's budget proposed eliminating the 10-member fire department to cut $1.8 million from the city's budget.
However, the attorney says Harris never negotiated with the union before making that proposal.
